Enjoy Mexican Food without Excess Calories and Fat

I love Mexican food, but I hate the calories and fat that come with some of the selections. Here’s what I do when I go out for Mexican:

1. Choose a large vegetable salad with black beans and beef/pork/chicken, salsa, extra fajita veggies, and a little guacamole
(~500 cal)

2. Go for a burrito or crispy taco tortillas with veggies, black beans, and salsa
(~500 calories)

3. Other healthy tips for eating Mexican-style food:
Choose 1 fat: sour cream, cheese, or guacamole
Choose either beans OR rice
Load up on veggies
Skip the chips
Use salsa instead of cheese and sour cream
Use only a little bit of guacamole

Make Your Own At Home: Fill up whole grain flour or corn tortillas with grilled chicken or fish, onions, peppers, black beans, a little guacamole, a dollop of Greek yogurt, and plenty of salsa! Bake your own corn tortilla chips at home with a sprinkle of cumin, chili powder, and lime juice.
