Healthy Crab Cakes (Adapted from my Aunt Zina’s Recipe)

Love crab cakes, but hate the calories and fat that come with the traditional recipe?

Here’s my healthy version of this decadent meal:

(makes 4 large or 8 small cakes)
1 serving for lean and green meal = 1 large or 2 small cakes

• 1 egg or 2 egg whites or ¼ cup egg substitute
• 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
• 1 drop Tabasco or 1/8 tsp Old Bay
• 1/3 cup low fat mayonnaise
(try substituting some nonfat Greek yogurt to save even more calories)
• ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 pound jumbo lump crabmeat
• 3T breadcrumbs

Combine all. Add crabmeat after all ingredients are combined. Gently toss in crabmeat. Heat butter spray in skillet and brown on both sides. Place in 400°F for 8 min.

Smarter Tartar Sauce
• 6 tablespoons nonfat plain Greek yogurt
• 2 tablespoons low fat mayonnaise
• 1 scallion, finely chopped
• 1/4 cup finely chopped pickles or relish
• 1 tablespoon chopped capers

Combine all the ingredients and stir.
Low in fat and calories (~130 calories for entire recipe, yields ¾ cup sauce).
