Like Peanut Butter but don’t like the 200 calories that come with a measily 2 tablespoons?
Try my favorite peanut butter substitutes, which are products that simply have the fat removed but the peanut flavor intact.
Better Than Peanut Butter (regular and chocolate flavors, found at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s). This slightly sweet spread clocks in at 100 calories per 2 tablespoons (half the calories of regular peanut butter).
PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter (regular and chocolate flavors, available at www.bellplantation.com) A somewhat odd concept, but surprisingly, it works.
Mix with water to achieve desired consistency for spreading, or add to sauces, smoothies, and salad dressings for deliciously peanutty flavor.
~50 calories per 2 tablespoons (one quarter of the calories of the real stuff).
Sweet Snacking: Mix 1 tablespoon of Chocolate PB2 with 1 tablespoon of sugar free apricot jam and 1/2 tablespoon of water. Spread on 1 slice of reduced calorie whole grain bread, fold in half, and sink your teeth in. Got milk? A cup of 1% or skim organic milk is a perfect accompaniment. Total calories: ~185!
